Krakow, the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. The capital of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland from 1038 to 1569. The history of Wieliczka is inseparably associated with the discovery of the rock salt resourced in the twelfth century. As a result, the town has considerably developed, however, in the seventeenth century it was robbed by the Swedish, and destroyed by the fire, which took place in the eighteenth century. The mine is still active, but it also functions as a tourist destination.hor


Tour details

Take a one day trip from Warsaw to Wieliczka to be able to see 300 kilometers of underground corridors on 9 levels reaching down over 300 meters. The site was added to list of UNESCO World Heritage. No wonder, it can boast with unique, amazing underground lakes and salt sculptures. During the trip, it is possible to go down as many as 135 meters, so it won’t be a surprise that it was already visited by about 50 million tourists.

Many interesting legends are associated with Wieliczka, for instance the legend of princess Kinga. She has her own chapel which is a real gem of the salt mine. Breath-taking carvings, altars and chandeliers on the ceiling make it an astonishing place. That is why many weddings take place there.

The visit at the salt mine lasts for a few hours, so it is possible to take a one day trip from Warsaw to Wieliczka. The temperatures under the ground range from 14o to 16oC. It is worth to wear comfortable shoes, as there are about 800 stairs.
