Białowieża National Park is the oldest national part in Poland. Its beginnings date back to 1920s. It is situated in Podlaskie voivodship, in the east of Poland. Due to its distinctive and unique beauty it was distinguished and included in the Unesco Heritage List. Its area is used for research and educational purposes, as well as for sightseeing. The park protects the best preserved fragment of Białowieża Forest – last natural forest at the European Lowland Area, having the primaeval character. The characteristic feature of the park is its biological diversity. Here, you will find a whole plethora of various species of animals., and many of them can be found only in few places worldwide. So it is a real paradise for nature lovers.
The Białowieża Forest has an area of over 150,000 ha, situated both in Poland and Belarus. Due to the fact that is used to be a hunting place for the kings, the area was specially protected and it was possible to preserve this beautiful site. There ecosystems here, with which no man ever interfered. Many trees are over 7 meters high, which males an astonishing impression.
The most widely used areas of the park are Bison Breeding Center, Hwoźna and Orłówka Units. Many of areas are under strict, active and landscape protection. The park it often referred to as “last untouched wilderness of Europe”, since not much human intervention can be found in it. Thus, both the nature lovers and those interested in the Polish landscape will be absolutely delighted with the visit in the park, especially that there is a special educational path in the forest, which you can walk together with or without the guide. For sure it will be an interesting trip to the heart of the nature.
