Auschwitz Birkenau is a very unusual place on the map of Poland. It is associated with very difficult and sad period in the history of our country since it was the largest of Nazi death camp in German-occupied Poland during World War Two. It is a heart-breaking memorial of death of millions of Jews, and other nations, the largest tomb in the world. The place ceased to be a death camp in 1947, when the camp was liberated and the decision was made to transform it into the museum.
